Research Wave and the Journal of Cognition and AI (JCAI) recognize the increasing utility and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, in modern academic research.
To maintain the integrity of the scholarly record, we have established clear boundaries regarding the acceptable use of these technologies.
Acceptable Use
Authors are permitted to utilize AI tools and LLMs to assist in the manuscript preparation process for the following specific purposes:
- Language & Grammar: Language polishing, translation assistance, and structural grammar improvement to enhance readability.
- Formatting: Organizing, formatting, and structuring references or manuscript metadata.
- Code Generation: Generating code snippets, scripts, or routine programming functions, provided their use is fully transparent and functionally verified by the authors.
Unacceptable Use
The core of academic publishing relies on human intellect and verifiable research. AI tools must not be used under any circumstances to:
- Fabrication: Generate fabricated or falsified data, experimental analyses, synthetic images, or non-existent citations.
- Core Scholarly Contributions: Replace critical human scholarly contributions, including primary idea generation, theoretical interpretation, or the formulation of final conclusions.
- Responsibility Evasion: Circumvent ethical guidelines or obscure authorship responsibilities. (AI tools cannot be listed as authors).
Mandatory Disclosure & Responsibility
Transparency is mandatory. Any utilization of AI or LLM tools in the conceptualization, drafting, or editing of a manuscript must be formally disclosed.
How to Disclose:
Any AI use must be explicitly stated in the Acknowledgments section of the manuscript.
Example: "This manuscript utilized ChatGPT (OpenAI) strictly for language editing and grammar polishing prior to submission."
⚠️ Ultimate Responsibility:
Regardless of any AI assistance utilized, the ultimate responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and ethical integrity of the work lies solely with the human authors.
